The Urban Incubator is a project located in east liberty, a rising neighborhood of Pittsburgh with the business vitality of the central district and the creative culture of Pittsburgh’s East End. The site is currently a surface parking lot that sits adjacent to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The project takes a welcoming urban gesture by providing public spaces on the rooftop that encourages active engagement of the neighborhood. A continuous pedestrian carpet is created to accommodate different outdoor activities in the public and bring diversity to the urban fabric in the area.
The primary program components are organized by floor. The central new media exhibition space punctures through the building, with ramps serving as main circulation throughout different floors and structure serving as space and skeleton for exhibition, where projects screens of different sizes can be anchored.
